Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe, 34, just opened up about her addiction to antidepressant Valium in her latest episode of her new YouTube series, 9 to Wine, and how it led to her weighing just 93 pounds at one point.

The reality TV star explained that, a few years ago, she moved to Germany with her then-boyfriend, giving up her job as a dancer in the Canadian Football League, according to Us Weekly. When they eventually broke up, she ended up moving back in with her parents at age 27. And that’s when things started going downhill.

“When I say I lost myself, that is an understatement,” Kaitlyn explained. “I think I had out-of-body experiences in Germany. Where I was a child and I was screaming and kicking on the floor, bawling my eyes out. It was like I was looking down on myself, going, ‘Why are you behaving this way? This is not who you are, get up off the floor.’ And I couldn’t.”

She went on to say, “I had nothing and that life was over for me, that I’d given up all my hopes and dreams, and that the love of my life was now gone.”

After seeking professional help, Kaitlyn was prescribed Valium, which she said made her feel “numb.”

I didn’t feel anything. I got to sleep, I got to not feel my feelings, and that felt great to me,” she said. “I had become addicted to Valium, and I was about 93 pounds. And that was when somebody had to shake me and say, ‘You can’t live like this. This is not you.’”

Eventually, Kaitlyn decided she was “sick of being numb” and moved to Vancouver. There, she began working in the restaurant industry and was soon cast on season 19 of The Bachelor, competing for Chris Soules’ heart.

Kaitlyn further opened up about her experience with drug addiction on her Instagram and how she hoped sharing her story might resonate with others.

“I didn’t plan on sharing so much but I just know someone will relate and it’s part of where I am now. I talk about Antidepressants, Valium, severe weight loss, heartbreak, my bachelor audition clip, and more,” she caption her post. “I cried watching this episode back because I am so proud of myself for always following my heart. Please let me know if this resonates with you.”

Kaitlyn got lots of supportive message from her fans and friends.

“Absolutely incredible 😭💕,” said one fan, while another wrote, “Needed to hear it big time. Thank you for always being so real and vulnerable ♥️ sending a big virtual hug back.”
