Toy firm Vivid, which also makes the best-selling Moshi Monsters range, has urged anyone who bought Animagic My First Puppy plushies to return them immediately.
Vivid said 200 of the soft toys, which only recently went on sale for the first time, had small parts which could detach and cause small kids to choke.
It's now recalling all 386 My First Puppy toys that were sold to the public as a "precaution," a spokesman told The Sun. The toy is also no longer on sale.
The toys can be returned to the shop they were bought from for a full refund, Vivid said.
The stuffed animals cost £9.99 on Very.co.uk and were included in two for £15 deals at Argos.
Your product recall rights
As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.
But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.
When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.
If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.
They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.
In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full redund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.
You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.
They were also on sale at other big retailers, including Tesco, Amazon and Smyths.
Shoppers could pick from four different types of puppy that children could carry inside a pet carrier.
The toy also came with eight accessories including a lead and a brush.
The issues affect toys with batch codes: 181008P3, 181102P3, and 181116P3.
If you've bought one, it's best to return it to the store you bought it from or ring your retailer's customer service helpline.
Argos confirmed it is supporting the recall. You can ring its staff for free on 0800 0113462 between 8am and 8pm Monday through to Sunday.
A spokesman for Vivid said: "We have conducted an independent risk assessment, which concludes there is a low risk, however as a precaution we have taken the step to withdraw the products from sale and recall them from consumers."
She added: "At this time, there has been no reported incidents with this product. No other Animagic or Vivid products are affected by this notice."
Lynx is also recalling Christmas gift sets with speakers – The Golden Year and Lynx Black – due to fears that they could overheat and burn customers.
Claire's is urging parents to ditch its squishy key rings due to fears young children could choke on them.
And Little Tikes issued a safety warning yesterday over a garden play set sold in Argos and Asda because it could trap tots' fingers.
