Alton Brown may be a celebrated food expert, but don’t expect the Cutthroat Kitchen host to be in the kitchen on his own wedding day. Brown is engaged and set to marry interior designer Elizabeth Ingram in late September, and he made a an agreement with her that he wouldn’t set foot in the kitchen when it comes time to say “I do.”
“I’m not cooking one bit of it,” Brown, 56, told Us Weekly exclusively when asked about his wedding day meal. “That’s the key to enjoying your own wedding: Don’t cook the food; have other people do everything.”
Given Brown’s position in the culinary world, the Iron Chef America host knew a few people he could call on to get behind the stove on his big day, which will be taking place at a “non-disclosed location.” Added the creator of the upcoming Cooking Channel series, Good Eats: Reloaded, “Luckily I know some people that cook a heck of a lot better than I do.”
And even if Brown was happy to season and sauté on the same day he was set to walk down the aisle, he and Ingram agreed setting foot in the kitchen on his wedding day was off limits. “My fiancée said, ‘Absolutely positively you’re not cooking,’” Brown explained “That was a rule.”
After the couple’s “very small wedding,” the newlyweds plan to “go away for a little while to try to actually have a honeymoon” in late October, Brown revealed. “We’re both pretty busy, so it’s tough.”
And even though he already has his plate full with his wedding, the upcoming premiere of Good Eats: Reloaded and the 2019 launch of Return of the Eats, Brown, who currently has a partnership with Colgate Optic White toothpaste, has still found time to work on a children’s book. He told Us: “It’s a food book, but it’s also about our bodies, and since food starts in the mouth, teeth are a pretty important part of it.”
