There’s nothing quite like fresh corn on the cob when it’s in season during the Summer, but the only annoying part is cutting it. Leave it to culinary queen Ina Garten to share a quick tip on how to cut it without making a huge mess. Cutting the corn in a downward motion is the common method; however, this usually causes kernels to fly all over your kitchen. Ina’s helpful trick is to place a clean kitchen towel on the counter first. Then, cut the kernels off the cob (using a sharp knife) right on top of the towel. You can then scoop up the kernels by picking up the towel and pour them all into a bowl in one swift motion.
In the video above, Ina says, “When the corn is in season in East Hampton, I love to make corn salad and sauteed corn. But how do you get the kernels off the cob without getting them all over your kitchen? I worked out a system.” After you watch her, you’ll think, “How easy is that?”
