Teacher makes sweet gesture to calm kids’ nerves on first day back at school

Most parents will know that kids can feel quite anxious about their first day at school – it marks the beginning of a new chapter and can be daunting.

A teacher who sent kids into her class a sweet present to try and calm their nerves.

She gave them all a bag of ‘jitter glitter’ for them to put under their pillows before bed to help them rest easy before the night before their big day.

Mum Jayne Hardy and founder of mental health charity Blurt, shared a picture of the package her daughter Peggy received on social media.

She wrote: "Peggy is starting school this week and has just received a letter from her teacher with a bag of ‘jitter glitter’ to put under her pillow to help with any nerves she might have. I can’t get over how thoughtful this is".

The parcel came with a jitter glitter poem – which explained what the sweet gift was for, and a small pack of glitter.

The poem said that some children might feel anxious ahead of starting school and encourages them to sprinkle some glitter under the pillow before they go to bed – to keep them "rested and relaxed and ready for school".

People commented on the post, with one writing: "Peggy, make sure you spread it everywhere, your mum will love clearing it up" and someone else calling the gesture "sweet".
