Tanner Tolbert says intimacy ‘took a dive’ after kids: ‘I feel like I’ve begged for it’

Tanner Tolbert stopped by Nick Viall’s podcast, “The Viall Files” and discussed life as a married father with a newborn…including postpartum sex.

“What romance?” the “Bachelor in Paradise” alum initially joked when Viall asked about romance in relationships.

Tolbert admitted that the intimacy in his marriage has changed because he wants sex more now while his wife, Jade Roper Tolbert, wants it less.

“I get why,” Tolbert said. “But it is hard, it’s one of the biggest things we talk about.”

He explained that it “took a dive” when their first child, Emmy, was born and Jade started breastfeeding because it “jacked with her hormones a little.” Soon after nursing Emmy, the couple got pregnant again and recently gave birth to a boy, Brooks.

“Now he’s here and we have two kids. It is tough. I feel like I’ve begged for it. And I don’t want to feel selfish. I hate asking, I hate trying, because I don’t want it to be pity sex,” Tolbert revealed. “And I don’t want to annoy Jade, and I realize her priorities should be on the kids, not me, but I do feel on the back burner.”

The “Bachelor in Paradise” couple welcomed Brooks in late July. Jade “accidentally” gave birth to him in her closet in “one of the scariest moments” of her life.

According to Mayo Clinic, it’s recommended to wait four to six weeks after giving birth before having sex, especially since complications after delivery are at their highest the first two weeks. The site notes that waiting to have sex will allow your body time to heal.

“In addition to postpartum discharge and vaginal tears, you might experience fatigue, vaginal dryness, pain and low sexual desire,” Mayo Clinic says on their site. “If you had a vaginal tear that required surgical repair, you might need to wait longer.”

I accidentally gave birth at home last night, in our master closet. I’ve been still processing the shock of this all, as this was not all at what I had planned, but I am so so thankful for each person who helped bring our son into the world safely. I’ll share my whole birth story soon, but long story short, my waters broke and 75 minutes later I gave birth to our healthy baby boy while clutching a bench in our closet. It was one of the scariest moments of my life because I felt so out of control, but Tanner, Tanner’s mom, my mom and the medics and firefighters kept me going when I felt like the world was caving in on me and my unborn baby. I was going to share the happy, cute Instagrammable pics first, but this felt right to me. So incredibly grateful for the support system we had and for this beautiful boy I get to hold in my arms.
