Olympia Ohanian seems to be following in mom Serena Williams’ footsteps. Or — perhaps more aptly — her footwork.
Over the weekend, the 6-year-old hit the tennis court with her parents. And while fans are assuming her mom acted as her coach (who better than a 23-time Grand Slam champion?!), her dad was given a slightly less glamorous role.
“Papa is my ballboy,” read the caption on a photo of a sweaty Olympia practicing her backhand.
“🙋🏻♂️,” dad Alexis Ohanian commented.
Others were quick to jump in the comments too saying things like, “DNA 👸🏽🎾,” “And so it begins… 😍,” “Being a dad is Priceless ❤️,” and “look at that stance already #gotthepower.”
Williams told People that she and Olympia — and presumably their ballboy — started hitting the court at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Honestly, we started because it’s a socially safe sport, and when COVID happened, it was like, ‘We’re just in the house with a 3-year-old, what do we do?’”
That little 3-year-old is now a proud big sister after Williams and Ohanian welcomed a second daughter, Adira, last month. While we can’t imagine the 1-month-old has perfected her backhand quite yet, we do wonder if the Ohanian girls will grow up to be legendary tennis stars like their mom and aunt. And if their dad, the co-founder of Reddit, will be able to be a ballboy for both his daughters.
And while Williams teaches her daughter to be an athlete, the sassy 6-year-old apparently teaches her mom to be a musician. In a 2021 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Williams revealed that Olympia likes to play the piano.
“And she’s teaching me! Like, I’m not even kidding,” she explained. “I have a baby Mozart, [but] of course every parent thinks they have like, a baby Beethoven or whatever.”
Maybe we should expect a photo captioned, “Papa is my piano tuner,” in the near future!
