The parenting police came for Kim Kardashian on Wednesday, December 26, after she Instagrammed a family portrait, in which her 5-year-old daughter, North, is seen rocking bright red lipstick.
“Don’t start this little girl on red lipstick! That’s for grownups. Come on,” wrote one troll in the comments. Added another: “It’s wrong for kids to wear makeup. It’s not normal. It’s not natural. Period.” A third called the look “inappropriate.”
Though the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, 38, has not responded to the criticism, plenty of fans came to her defense. As one pointed out: “Maybe she wanted to wear the lipstick? Ever consider that? Little girls like to be fancy and dress up. It makes them feel pretty. I did the same thing. Let her live.”
It turns out North was the one who selected the bold shade that she wore to the family’s Christmas Eve party on Monday. “North just made me go look for my Dior rouge lipstick,” the KKW beauty founder revealed on Twitter. “She picked it though! It’s a special occasion!” In a follow-up tweet, she joked: “It just might be a new Classic Red Lip I have to launch VERY soon.”
Kardashian, who shares kids North, Saint, 3, and Chicago, 11 months, with her husband, Kanye West, is no stranger to mom-shaming. She has previously come under fire for sharing a snap of North in a bikini and for straightening her hair.
Meanwhile, North’s passion for bronzer and blush is nothing new. In 2017, North gave one of her mom’s pals a makeover using products from Maybelline and ColourPop Cosmetics and it was all documented on Instagram. “North says she wants to be a makeup artist,” Kardashian declared. That same year, she told WWD that North wants to do makeup tutorials on YouTube!
