Mums have discovered a genius product that’s ideal for helping your little ones overcome one of their biggest fears: going to the bathroom in the night.
Mel Thitchener was shopping in the Christmas section of her local Kmart in the Central Coast, Australia this week when she stumbled across the toilet seat night light.
The light makes the toilet bowl glow in a choice of colours and it’s motion activated, meaning it turns on only when it’s needed – ideal for midnight toilet trips.
It means children don’t have to enter the bathroom in pitch black darkness so they can see their surroundings, which is much less scary.
"It is just a jokey gift from the Kmart Kris Kringle section but I thought it could be used in a more practical fashion all year round," she told Mamamia .
"We’ve had the light for the last two nights and my kids – five years old and nine years old – are really happy with it.
"It saves blinding yourself by turning on the full light and the motion sensor and automatic turn off means you aren’t wasting batteries all night."
It sounds ideal for children who find the prospect of entering the bathroom alone in the dark terrifying.
Mel was so overjoyed with the night light hack and she shared it on the Kmart mums Australia Facebook page, where it turns out it’s a favourite with mums.
"Perfect for little ones going to the toilet at night!!!" one mum wrote.
Mums commented on the post to say they’re going to try the smart hack too.
The toilet light, which hooks onto the bowl under the seat, is $8 from Kmart in Australia, but plenty of other variations on the product can be bought online by parents in the UK.
One by Yaoyo is being sold on Amazon for £6.99 – it has eight colour options and is motion-activated.
