Life as a working parent can be tough.
Some days you’ll feel like a superhero juggling all your responsibilities, but other days you’ll be left feeling like a failure for not spending enough time with your kids.
This is the predicament one mum recently found herself in after having to travel for work.
Parenting blogger Laura Mazza, also known as themumontherun recently had to fly interstate for her job, but she promised her four-year-old son Luca she’d be back in time for Halloween and they would go trick or treating.
He was so excited and the pair spent ages looking at costumes and deciding what they would wear.
But when the day finally rolled around, Laura found herself stuck away from home, with flights delayed and traffic heaving.
The mum-of-three explained all in a post on Instagram.
She wrote: "We have always loved Halloween and I’ve loved it since watching it in movies.
"An opportunity for me to work came up and I flew interstate for the day. I promised Luca the night before that I’d be home in time to trick or treat.
"Flights were delayed, traffic was crazy and I got home to find him asleep in his costume waiting for me.
"I ugly cried. Bloody mum guilt, right?!"
Laura went on to admit that she felt "terrible" about the whole thing as she had "hated" broken promises as a kid, so she decided to try and find a way to make things up to him.
She ended up messaging a local mums group on Facebook to ask if anyone still had their decorations up so they could trick or treat.
The mum wasn’t prepared for the incredible responses she got.
"I was flooded with messages from mothers saying they still do and have lots of chocolate and goodies left over," she said. "Some even saying they’ll put their decorations back up. Everyone appreciating the feeling of guilt I felt, and wanted to help."
So on November 1st, one day after Halloween, Laura took Luca trick or treating.
And she had some special ‘treats’ to give out to all the wonderful mums who had helped – in the form of wine.
"I explained to my son at each house how caring each person was to do this for him, and that he should learn from their kindness and do the same and that kindness like this should never be taken for granted.
"One mum even went as far as to dress up so that my son would get the full experience."
She added: "I have been in tears all day. Happy and emotional tears. They didn’t just do it for my son, they didn’t just teach him that humanity is beautiful, but they taught me that in motherhood you’re never alone, because other mothers will always have your back."
Hundreds of people have liked her post, with many taking the time to share their thoughts on the kind gesture.
One person commented: "Oh wow! Thats just beautiful!"
Another posted: "That is an absolutely beautiful story, mums do amazing things."
A third said: "I’m in tears just reading this."
