In the video, we see McConaughey smiling from ear to ear as his children each tackle hug him, with them saying “I love you!” They surprised him with a little family party, packed with balloons, food, hand-drawn pictures, and a whole lot of laughs! (Truly, how could this family get any cuter?!)
McConaughey and Alves originally met in 2006 by chance at a bar, and five years later, they got engaged on Christmas Day in 2011. Less than a year later, they wed on June 9, 2012. They share three children together named Levi, 15, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10.
In a previous interview with CNN, the children’s book author talked about how fatherhood was so different than expected, and how he nurtures his children to truly be themselves. “It’s so much more DNA than environment than I thought it was going to be,” he said. “They are who they are, and we nudge them along, and we shepherd them, and we try to put what they love in front of them and keep them away from great harm. But boy, they are who they are right when they come into the world.”
