Kate Hudson Says "I Want Another Baby" — But We're Not Holding Our Breath

How do you know when you’re done having kids? For some parents, it’s something they know almost instinctually and for others, there can be more nuance. Kate Hudson, who is the mom of three kids ranging from one to 15, shared that she is in the latter category on Thursday.

Kate Hudson and her brother Oliver were on The Ellen Degeneres Show to talk about their podcast, Sibling Revelry. The sibling duo have a lot in common, including being the parents of three kids each in the same order (two boys and then a girl). But that neat cousin symmetry might not last forever: When Degeneres jokingly asked if they’d keep having children until one of them “wins,” Oliver quickly said no. While Oliver says he is “so done,” Kate admitted to not knowing — and said it has a lot to do with her youngest, Rani, who turned one back in October.

“Right now, Rani’s in that place where you’re like, ‘I want another baby,’” Hudson explains. But she knows that might not last forever.

“But once she gets like four, five, you’re like, ‘I feel like my life is kinda back a little bit.’ They’re kind of in a groove,” she adds. In other words, Hudson’s missing the sweet baby months — but not yet realizing the benefits of having older, more independent kids. Back in January, however, she seemed more sure about having more kids with her boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa, explaining that she wants to “pump them out for him” (um, yikes?) while on Today. Then, she also acknowledged that a big reason she may want more than three comes down to Fujikawa.

“At one point I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I’m done.’ And then I met Danny and was like, ‘Alright, I got to pump them out for him,’” she said about Fujikawa. She also expressed desire for Fujikawa to have a son. Given that Hudson has said she wants as many as six kids, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Rani get a little sibling before she gets to that four-year-old sweet spot.

Whatever she decides, we’re confident Hudson is going to keep kicking ass at parenting — mistakes and all.

“I make parenting mistakes all the time,” Hudson told Women’s Health in November. “I’ve yelled at my kids too much, and I’ve also cursed in front of them, and I also haven’t shown up for things because I was out of town. In no way am I a perfect mother. But at the same time, I have days where I’m like, ‘I’m a f***ing supermom.’ I am cooking, cleaning, doing homework, changing diapers, I worked out. What I’ve learned — and what I’m learning — is that I’m doing the best I can.”
