Jon Gosselin: Collin Does Not Have ‘Special Needs’

In 2016, Kate Gosselin revealed that her son Collin, then 12, was living at a facility for children with special needs. But according to Collin’s dad, Jon Gosselin, he didn’t belong there.

“He is not on any spectrum or special needs,” Jon, 41, wrote in the comments on his Tuesday, December 25, Instagram post. The Pennsylvania-based DJ was responding to a fan who asked, “I’d love to know if he actually has ‘special needs,’ or if he just didn’t deal [with] Kate’s BS like we all suspect. Either way, he’s home! And he looks happy.”

Earlier this month, Jon was awarded sole temporary custody of Collin, 14, after Kate, 43, did not show up at court. The former couple, who split in 2009 after 10 years of marriage, are parents of sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Joel and Aaden as well as 18-year-old twins Cara and Madelyn. Hannah has lived with Jon since February, while the other children are with their mother.

Collin celebrated Christmas at home with Hannah and his dad. They were also joined by the former reality star’s girlfriend, Colleen Conrad, and her two children.

While Jon is close with Collin and Hannah, he revealed exclusively to Us Weekly on December 11 that he has a “volatile” relationship with his other kids and has not seen them in a year. But he is grateful that Hannah still communicates with her brothers and sisters. “If they don’t want to talk to me, that’s fine, as long as they keep up with their sibling connections,” he explained. “Eventually, if they come around and they want to talk to me, that’s cool.”

Kate has defended her decision to send Collin away. “It was not even a really a choice, it was on the advice of his doctors and it had to happen,” she said on a November 2016 episode of ABC’s Nightline. “He’s plodding along and we are too. This is the best thing I can do for him right now and that comforts me.”
