Jon Bon Jovi is speaking on his son Jake Bongiovi’s engagement to Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, and his reaction to his 20-year-old proposing to the 19-year-old actress may surprise you.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live” show on Tuesday, Andy Cohen asked for the “Living on a Prayer” singer’s take on the young couple’s plans to marry. Cohen prefaced the question with the fact that the rockstar married his high school sweetheart, Dorthea Hurley, although the radio host noted that they didn’t get engaged as young as Bongiovi and Brown.
“I don’t know if age matters,” Bon Jovi began. “You know, if you find the right partner and you grow together — I think that would be my advice, really, is growing together is wise.” The musician continued, “I think that all my kids have found the people that they think they can grow together with, and we like them all.”
Cohen asked the “Wanted Dead or Alive” singer if he’s seen the Netflix show that launched Brown into superstardom, and he answered with a laugh, “I’ve seen it, of course.” He sweetly added, “Millie’s wonderful. Her whole family are great, really great. Jake is very, very happy.” Talk about a doting dad and a loving father-in-law! We adore Bon Jovi’s support of and confidence in his son’s choices; they seem to have a very endearing dynamic.

Brown & Bongiovi’s History
In April 2023, Brown and Bongiovi both announced their engagement on their respective Instagram accounts. The actress posted a photo of herself holding up her left hand, complete with a round diamond ring, as her fiancé wrapped his arms around her from behind. “I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, I want ’em all,” she captioned the sweet shot.
Bongiovi shared his own photos of the beachfront proposal, simply captioning the post, “Forever 🤍.”
The couple was first spotted in June 2021 holding hands while walking the streets of New York City. Although the public speculated that the pair were in a relationship from frequent photos shared of one another on their Instagram accounts, the Enola Holmes actress made it official to the world when she called Bongiovi her boyfriend in a December 2021 interview with Seventeen.

Public Commentary on Their Engagement
Because of Brown and Bongiovi’s young age, the public of course had a lot to say about their engagement.
Many were critical of the news, with one person commenting on the Stranger Things star’s post, “What? She’s eleven.” Others echoed the punster’s sentiment, writing, “Isn’t she only 19 years old?” and “Omgg too young,” among many more similarly worded comments.
However, supportive fans were just as present in the replies, with one comment reading, “To anyone saying ‘too young’ or ‘young people can’t actually work out’ – my husband and I have been together since we were 15/17 and were coming up on 18 years together!” They continued, “You *can* be in love and know REAL love in your teens and be even MORE in love in your 30s. It’s possible and wonderful. Congratulations you two!! 💕💕💕💕💕💕”
Another Instagram user wrote, “People still talk about age? Also, I don’t believe she asked for anyone’s opinion or advice. Move along.”
“We all know people who married in their 30s or 40s and the marriage didn’t last,” one person pointed out. “We also know those high school sweetheart 19 year olds who married and stayed married for decades. You can’t predict anything these days. All you can do is wish them the best and be happy for them like a decent human being ❤️,” they concluded.
