John Cena: 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?' Did Not Give Me Baby Fever

Not happening! Hosting Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? did not give John Cena baby — or babysitter — fever.

“No, I certainly enjoy things that I do at the time that I do them,” the actor, 42, told Us Weekly exclusively on Tuesday, June 11, when asked whether the show made him want to spend more time with kids after hours.

The professional wrestler added: “Man, those kids have such energy, and I like to fancy myself a dude who comes out very energetic and ready to go, but those 11-year-old kids do not stop. I just kept looking at them going, ‘How do you do it?’ I wish I could harness even a small amount of it, they are brilliant yet nuclear with their energy.”

In June 2018, Cena opened up about wanting to have babies in a TMZ interview. “I would love to be a dad,” the athlete said at the time. “I realize very much that I have been steadfast in saying that I don’t want children. But I’m a little bit older now, a bit wiser. At age 18, we say things different at age 25, at 35. I would love it only because I dedicated my life to my work and now I’m realizing that there is life and life exists and it’s beautiful and I think part of that is being a parent, so we’ll see.”

This statement came two months after the Fast & Furious 9 star split from fiancé Nikki Bella, partially due to him not wanting to have any children.

In May, he said he wanted “to be the father of” her kids on the Today show.

After a brief reconciliation, the couple broke up in July. “After I called off the engagement, we tried to work on our relationship to get back to where it was in order to move forward with our wedding,” the Total Bellas star told Us at the time. “After much time and soul-searching alone, and together, we have decided to officially part ways. I had a beautiful and loving six-year relationship with a wonderful man. I have the utmost respect for John, but I know this is what’s best for me.”

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? airs on Nickelodeon on Mondays at 7 p.m. ET.
