When Jessie James Decker gave birth to her first child in 2014, she had no idea what to expect. The country singer assumed she would be like Kourtney Kardashian, who famously pulled daughter Penelope out with her hands.
“I was unprepared and had this idea of what the delivery was going to be like,” Decker told Us Weekly at the Moms and Old El Paso Mamarazzi event on October 4. “I thought my water was going to break on the street.”
The Kittenish clothing designer, 30, and retired football player Eric Decker are parents of Vivianne, 4, Eric Jr., 3, and 6-month-old Forrest. In her new book, Just Jessie, the mom of three detailed her emergency C-section. Writing about Vivianne’s birth story was Jessie’s most difficult chapter.
“I thought I was going to get to the hospital and push and and plop, she was going to be out. I didn’t know I was going to be in labor for so long and throwing up between every single contraction,” Jessie revealed. “The epidural didn’t take. I felt everything.”
After Vivianne was surgically removed, Jessie was unable to hold her child. “My arms were strapped down,” she explained. “I was half-asleep with one eye closed. It was a very traumatic experience.”
Of all C-sections, Forrest’s was by far the easiest. “I got to hold him in my arms and nurse him as I was being pushed out of the surgery room,” she gushed. “I was like, ‘I’m allowed to hold him? You’re not gonna take him away from me?’”
Jessie is going out on a high note. She and the athlete, 31, have no plans to expand their family. For now, they are just enjoying the chaos. “Having three toddlers running around is just so much fun,” the Eric & Jessie alum told Us. “Even when there’s not, we just love to lay there and look at each other, and just think about the first time we met seven years ago. We just feel so fortunate.”
