Jennifer Lopez is letting us in on what it’s like to raise two rebellious teenagers, and her insight on their “challenging” outlook may not be quite what you’re expecting.
On Wednesday, the multihyphenate sat down with talk show host Hoda Kotb on TODAY to chat about her upcoming action movie, The Mother — so they of course had to talk about the ins and outs of motherhood at this stage in Lopez’s life. Of her 15-year-old twins, Max and Emme, Lopez remarked in a crazed voice, “They’re giving it to me!”
She continued, “Listen, they’re becoming adults. They are challenging everything in life. They’re looking at everything, and these kids have so much information — so much more than we had — so they’re thinking and talking about things and about life in a different way than I did when I was 15 or 16 years old,” the actress explained.
After Kotb expressed that she feels like their generation “followed the rules,” the “Let’s Get Loud” singer exclaimed, “Yes! And they don’t!”

Why She Believes “Challenging” Teens Are a Good Thing
The Selena icon explained, “They’re, like, challenging everything and looking at everything — which is great, I think, for our world. I think they’re going to change the world, to be quite honest. And make it so much better, so much better than what we did,” she asserted with a laugh.
We love her refreshing perspective on parenting kids who, within reason, push boundaries. She’s right — Gen Z’s unwillingness to fall in line could be just what the world needs to take a step forward.

The Twins’ Dynamic With Stepdad Ben Affleck
Touching on the blended family dynamic in the Lopez-Affleck household, Kotb pronounced, “I love looking at images of you and your kids and Ben because there’s a certain way they look at Ben… There’s such a connection.”
The “On the Floor” singer sweetly responded, “They love Ben.” Showing just how smitten she is with her longtime love, Lopez said, “He’s a wonderful father and father figure to them as well. He has his own three beautiful children, and then there’s us, and he’s fantastic.”
She continued singing the Hollywood titan’s praises, sharing, “He really steps up to the challenge of what [step-fatherhood] is and what that means, and they love him, and they appreciate him, and so do I.”
Affleck shares daughters Violet, 17, and Seraphina, 14, as well as 11-year-old son Samuel, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, while Lopez shares the twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

A Second Chance at Happily Ever After
Of rediscovering love with Affleck and this phase in her life, Lopez remarked, “I love what I do; I always have said that, but since I had kids that changed a lot for me. And now having a family in this way and being married, you realize, you start kind of like rejiggering everything.” She continued, “It’s like, what is really important?”
Lopez’s mom adorably chimed in from behind the camera to say, “I knew that you always would get back together — because I prayed for 20 years!” And thank God she did, because we can’t get enough of the Gigli co-stars’ heartwarming romance and blended family journey.
