Jack Quaid: I Didn’t Realize My Parents Were Famous Until They Divorced

Say what? Jack Quaid had no idea that his parents, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, were famous until they got divorced.

“It didn’t really hit me, to be honest,” the Boys star, 26, told press at the TCA Winter Press Tour. It wasn’t until he saw headlines about Meg and Dennis’ split that he understood. “I was like, ‘Oh, OK, so everyone knows.’ Then, yeah, I knew [they were famous], but it was just kind of normal to me,” he said. “They were just my parents.”

The stars’ 10-year marriage ended in 1998, when Jack was 8 years old. “It’s one of those that it’s a hard deal,” he admitted on the “Allegedly” podcast in 2016. “But, I mean, it’s just as hard as any other divorce, really.”

During the press tour, the Hunger Games actor also opened up about his memories on set with his mom and dad — specifically, hanging out at the craft service truck. “I would just go in there and eat as much candy as I want,” Jack said. “That was the one perk, really.”

He added: “I didn’t really pick up anything [on set]. You don’t really know how to do it until you’re on the set yourself.”

Now Jack has a role on Amazon’s upcoming superhero series, The Boys. Although his parents haven’t seen it yet, the Los Angeles native admitted, “They’re stoked.”

In fact, Meg and Dennis encouraged their son when he told them that he wanted to follow in their acting footsteps. “Most parents, if you say, ‘I’m going to try to be an actor,’ they say, ‘What are you talking about? That’s not a viable career,’” Jack told Us Weekly exclusively in April 2018. “But they’re two people that have done it and succeeded at it, so they encouraged me. When I said, ‘I want to do what you guys do,’ they were like, ‘Go for it.’”
