Poor Jack Black! The actor’s sons, Samuel, 12, and Thomas, 10, are at the age where everything he does embarrasses them.
“I’m the dorky dad that my boys are humiliated by,” Black, 49, told Us Weekly at the premiere of fantasy adventure movie The House With a Clock in Its Walls on in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 16. “They’re always like, ‘Shut up, Dad. You’re so dumb.”
The star — he was joined by his wife Tanya Haden and their two kids — added that he hopes his new flick will earn him some cool points. “I’m hoping this is going to be the turning point where they go, ‘Oh, my God, Dad. You’re so cool.’ But don’t hold your breath.”
Earlier this month, Black revealed to U.K. news site Birmingham Live that his advice for young people is, “embrace your inner strangeness.” He noted that Samuel and Thomas “care about wanting to be normal and fit in” with their classmates.
Despite his wacky persona, the School of Rock alum is a rule enforcer at home. “I don’t know if I’m as much fun a dad as everybody would imagine. In terms of schedules, I like them to get to bed on time, because I like them to get up on time and get to school on time,” the comedian told Essential Kids in 2016. “I want them to keep up with their homework.”
Black and cellist Haden, 46, tied the knot in 2006.
The House With a Clock in Its Walls opens in theaters on Friday, September 21.
