When Kate Hudson gave birth to her third child, daughter Rani Rose, her mom Goldie Hawn was front and center.
During a guest co-hosting gig on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Thursday, the mother-daughter duo recalled the proud grandmother’s “right in there” presence during Rani’s delivery on Oct. 2.
“I remember the doctor goes, ‘Goldie, you get a little closer, you might fall in,’ ” said Hudson, 39, with a laugh before her mom launched into a recreation of the events, miming the doctor’s movements.
“I’m trying to get in on him to try to look over his shoulder, and I see the head and I’m going, ‘Oh, there’s the head!’ And then it went back,” Hawn, 73, said during her hilarious pantomime that had the audience in fits of laughter.
“And [the doctor] said, ‘Goldie, if you get any closer, you’re gonna fall in,’ ” she said. “So I took my cue. I didn’t get that much closer!”

While the actresses were co-hosting the show, Ellen DeGeneres had a very important job: keeping an eye on baby Rani (well … for a little while, at least).
“Hey Kate, Goldie, don’t worry about me, I’ve got everything under control,” the host said while cradling Rani from a live feed inside Hudson’s home. “You focus on the show and I am gonna take of your little darling … girl? She? I don’t know. Who cares at this age?”
“We’re having so much fun. Adorable little baby, so no need to rush. You just take your time. Enjoy the show. We’ll be fine,” DeGeneres continued before peering around and asking, “Are they gone?”
“Take it. Take it! It’s about to drool,” she joked as she handed Rani to a woman who had been off-camera before that point. “If you need me, I’ll be at Pechanga.”

In contrast to Rani’s arrival, Hudson’s labor with son Bingham Hawn, now 7½, saw the Overboard star not exactly being by her daughter’s side the entire time.
“I got hungry!” Hawn confessed during a joint chat in September with DeGeneres, 60, ahead of Rani’s birth. “She was in the stirrups and everything and was dilated. So I said, ‘I’m really hungry, I’m just going to come back.’ I came back with pizza and Doritos.”
That wasn’t all, though. “The best part was when Mom called me when I was in labor and said, ‘I’m was about to take a swim and then I was going to have a massage. How long do you think you’re going to be laboring?’ ” Hudson recalled to DeGeneres. “And I was like, ‘I don’t know, Mom!’ I’m calling the nurse going, ‘Do you know how long I’m going to be laboring? My mom wants to swim.’ “
