Fans and friends of Busy Philips’ late-night show, Busy Tonight, were sad to learn it was canceled after just one season back in May. Given that she was one of two women in late-night, and that the show had only been given six months, it felt especially unfair to see it gone so soon. As it turns out, no one agreed with that sentiment more than Birdie, Philips’ 11-year-old daughter. In a series of Instagram posts she’s dubbed “Almostgrams,” Philips has been looking back at her 2019 via images that didn’t get posted at the time they were taken.
In a series of images she dubbed the “Busy Tonight was [sic] cancelled round!” she remembers what it was like to find out the show was canceled via her agent out of the blue.
“I did what anyone would do. I sat in the lobby of the hotel in Dallas and ordered three tequilas and called Marc, Caissie, Eric, Tina, Caissie again and I cried,” she wrote about her reaction. But she also shared a few things that brought her hope, like seeing a new moon and an encouraging text from her husband, Marc Silverstein. The best encouragement, however, was undoubtedly a letter she discovered from Birdie addressed to E!
It’s definitely worth scrolling through her post to see the screed in all its glory, but Birdie starts out strong with, “You are the worst TV network. EVER.” Her reasons: they made her mom, as well as others who work on the show, lose their jobs. But perhaps most convincingly, “You suck.” Proving to be her mom’s biggest cheerleader and fan, she adds, “You didn’t [sic] diserve her.”
As to where the future of Philips’ career and show lies? Birdie ends it in big letters: “She will shove it up your ass. [Sic] Sincrly, Birdie.” If there’s ever been a reason to let kids get away with cursing, we’d say this is it: passionately defending her family and what she knows is right.
In another #Almostgram, Philips talked more about her kids and her decision to put them on social media. “I always ask them for permission to post pics and I always show them the caption as well,” she writes. “I love them more than anything in the world and all I ever want is for them to know that and feel as though they’re a part of every part of my life because they are.” In other words, that also means Birdie probably knows her letter to E! saw the light of day, which means it’s even more awesome. Here’s to more little girls and boys not being afraid to have their voices heard in 2020.
