Gwyneth Paltrow has always played by her own rules! The Goop founder’s mom, Blythe Danner, exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about her daughter’s rebellious years.
“Yes, she was [naughty when she was younger],” the Meet the Fockers actress, 76, told Us at the premiere of The Chaperone in New York City on Monday, March 25. “I had old-fashioned parental parameters and they didn’t always work.”
As for how she was able to handle Paltrow’s rough years, Danner told Us it was thanks to the now-46-year-old’s dad, Bruce Paltrow. “Her father was the great [stabilizer],” Danner said of her ex. “You know, the real heart of the family. Thank God he was there.”
It’s safe to say the Iron Man actress grew up to be a woman her mother admires. “I just did an interview with [TV personality] Dick Cavett and I said, ‘I can’t imagine this child came from me! She must have been switched at birth,’” Danner gushed to Us on Monday. “She’s just extraordinary, although, I’m not that surprised, because growing up she was always fearless, always trying something new and different.”
Gwyneth is seemingly dealing with the teenage angst from her own daughter, Apple, who recently called her out on social media. Earlier this month, the proud mom snapped a selfie on a ski lift with her 14-year-old, and posted the sweet pic to Instagram, much to the teen’s disapproval.
“Mom, we have discussed this,” Apple wrote in the comments section. “You may not post anything without my consent.”
Paltrow shares Apple and 12-year-old son Moses with ex-husband Chris Martin. She recently remarried Glee producer Brad Falchuk in September 2018, and Danner couldn’t be more thrilled for the newly minted husband and wife.
“I think they’re very much of the same,” Danner told Us of her daughter and son-in-law. “They have a very similar worldview and I think they’re very content and happy together.”
