White Castle has low-key been a vegetarian destination for a few years now, but they’re upping their game, as all 377 White Castle restaurants are now serving up the Impossible slider.
White Castle already offers up two vegan sliders, a black bean patty slider and a veggie slider made by Dr. Praeger’s Purely Sensible Foods. They even reformulated their buns a few years ago so they’d be vegan, not just vegetarian. That’s pretty impressive considering the fact that McDonald’s doesn’t have so much as a veggie burger, and their fries aren’t even vegan (they’re made with artificial beef flavor that’s derived from milk ingredients).
White Castle started testing sliders made with the Impossible burger at select locations this April, and because of its success, they’re now adding it to all their menus.
The Impossible slider will retail for $1.99 and consists of an Impossible burger patty on a bun with smoked cheddar cheese, pickles and onions. Ask for it on an unbuttered bun sans cheese to make it fully vegan.
Made from wheat and potatoes along with soy leghemoglobin, the Impossible burger looks and cooks just like real meat and even releases juices (OK, it "bleeds") just like a regular burger. It also packs an impressive 14 grams of protein per slider.
You can get the Impossible slider at any White Castle location, so if you’re intrigued by this meatless phenomenon, the drive-thru is calling your name.
