Jessica Simpson sent fans into a frenzy when she announced in a September Instagram post that she is pregnant with her third child. Ashlee Simpson was just as shocked as the rest of the world when her sister called with the exciting news.
“It was definitely a surprise,” Ashlee, 34, told Us Weekly at a Poopsie Slime Surprise event in Los Angeles. The Ashlee + Evan star was at a Tracy Anderson dance-aerobics class when Jessica tried reaching her. “I was sweating really bad!” Ashlee quipped. “I looked at my phone and I was like, ‘Whoa. I’ve got to run outside.’ So yeah, it was amazing.”
The pop singer and husband Evan Ross are parents of daughter, Jagger, 2. Ashlee is also mom of 9-year-old son Bronx with her former spouse, Pete Wentz. Jessica and Eric Johnson have Maxwell, 6, and Ace, 5. “Jagger’s my first daughter, so things she’s dealt with Maxwell on, I can call her about,” the E! personality explained. “It’s really nice. We both give each other advice. Actually, I don’t even think that it’s advice! We just talk to each other about things.”
Perhaps, Jessica has some potty-training tips. Ashlee and Ross, 30, are currently in the process of transitioning the toddler out of diapers. “She’s great at it now,” Ashlee raved. “Now we’re just working on the number twos. But she’s learning and doing great.”
Both the 7th Heaven alum and Star actor, 30, were happy to talk about bathroom behavior while promoting the Poopsie Slime Unicorn toy. (Kids make unicorn poop — a.k.a. slime — and then customize it with scents, sparkles and different colors.)
According to Ashlee, the key to getting a child to use the toilet is to be gentle and offer encouragement. “It’s patience,” she revealed. “Just being patient with them and really being on them every 10 minutes, ‘Do you need to go to the bathroom?’”
Meanwhile, Ashlee and Jessica could absolutely end up being pregnant at the same time. “We would 100 percent love another child,” Ross gushed to Us. Though both are currently focusing on music projects, he added that “it could happen sooner” than later.
Jagger has also made it clear that she’s ready to have one more sibling. “I think Jagger wants a little sister. She keeps talking about it,” Ross told Us. But Ashlee insisted Jagger will be happy with a brother too.
As for Bronx, Ashlee marveled over the fact that her little boy will be turning 10 this month. “I can’t believe Bronx is going to be double digits,” she told Us. “He’s just such an amazing kid. He’s like the coolest kid ever.”
