Arie Luyendyk Jr. apparently hasn’t learned his lesson. The Bachelor alum joked for the second time in three months that his fiancée, Lauren Burnham, is pregnant.
Luyendyk, 36, shared a video via his Instagram Story on Sunday, July 8, while baking a loaf of bread. “Got a bun in the oven,” he captioned the post. “Too soon? Jk :).”
The race car driver previously came under fire for a similar prank on April Fools’ Day. He tweeted a photo at the time of Burnham, 28, cradling a fake baby bump in a bodycon dress. “Secrets finally out, we have a bunny in the oven!” he wrote, much to the chagrin of women who struggle with infertility.
“Come on. be better than that. It’s not a joke for many struggling families to get pregnant. It’s extremely expensive and heartbreaking,” one frustrated Twitter user replied. “I wish nothing but the best for Arie and Lauren but this is not funny, it’s cruel.”
The next day, Luyendyk issued an apology. “I do have sympathy for women struggling from infertility,” he tweeted on April 2. “My April Fools prank was in no way meant to offend women who struggle with that. I apologize if you were effected [sic] personally by my post.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 12 percent of women ages 15 to 44 have difficulty getting pregnant or carrying to term.
Luyendyk initially proposed to Becca Kufrin on season 22 of the ABC reality dating series earlier this year. However, he had a change of heart and broke up with her to rekindle his romance with runner-up Burnham. Kufrin, 28, is now the lead of The Bachelorette’s 14th season.
Luyendyk and Burnham are set to tie the knot in a private ceremony in Maui, Hawaii, in January 2019.
