Angelina Jolie says her kids ‘have been through a lot,’ that she learns ‘from their strength’

Angelina Jolie may be a mother of six, but it’s her kids that teach her things sometimes.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the actress, 44, says she learns from her children: Maddox, 18, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

“They have been through a lot. I learn from their strength,” she said. “As parents, we encourage our kids to embrace all that they are, and all that they know in their hearts to be right, and they look back at us and want the same for us.”

Jolie also praised her children for helping her find herself.

“My children know my true self, and they have helped me to find it again and to embrace it,” she continued.

She also shared how she raises her kids in a world of social media.

“Knowing our true self is a very important question for all of us. Especially a child,” she explained. “I think kids need to be able to say, ‘Here’s who I am, and what I believe.’ We can’t prevent them from experiencing pain, heartache, physical pain, and loss. But we can teach them to live better through it.”

Jolie shares her children with ex-Brad Pitt. She filed for divorce from him in 2016 after two years of marriage.

In October, Jolie spoke candidly with People about how she grappled with re-discovering Maleficent for the follow-up to the 2014 film.

“It was a tough time,” the Oscar-winning actress admitted to the magazine of slipping back into the role for “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.”

“I’d been coming off a few years of difficulty, and I was not feeling very strong,” she added. “In fact, I was feeling pretty broken. It took me a moment to feel the strength of (Maleficent) again.”
