Summer Bay has recently been engulfed with grief after two heartbreaking tragedies saw both Robbo (Jake Ryan) and Mason’s (Orpheus Pledger) lives taken. The hospital siege saw Mason try to protect his patients by attempting to reason with the criminals who took them all hostage.
However, Mason paid the ultimate price for his actions and was shot dead, leaving the Bay in mourning as the newly employed doctor had his life taken away. Tori (Penny McNamee) and Justin (James Stewart) were faced with the fact they would need to travel to Brody (Jackson Heywood) and Raffy (Olivia Deeble) to tell them the news in person.
When they return to the Bay, they then need to think about planning for his memorial. Willow (Sarah Roberts) asks them about it, and Justin says they will be holding it halfway between Summer Bay and Victoria for Raffy and Brody. They are comforted when Alex (Zoe Ventoura), Willow, John (Shane Withington) and Marilyn (Emily Symons) say they’d like to come as Mason was a true hero.
Later, Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) and Dean (Patrick O’Connor) go to Salt and see a downcast Justin. Dean gives the two of them space while he gets drinks. Ziggy is surprised when Justin invites her to the memorial, but he points out that Mason was once her brother in law.
Ziggy is left with a dilemma, as she realises that if she goes to the memorial she will have to face her ex husband Brody with his new partner Simone (Emily Eskell). While she has put the past behind her and moved on with Dean, will she be able to face him so she can pay her respects to Mason?
