Weeds present a perpetual nightmare to gardeners because they are unsightly, invasive and quick to take over all types of outdoor landscapes.
Though the market has been flooded with chemical solutions for tackling weeds in recent decades, these pose an obvious risk to the surrounding environment.
Fortunately, the most critical factors in weed prevention are both relatively simple cheap and safe to use in the long run.
One method gardeners have long waxed lyrical about is maintaining a thick weed-resistant lawn without herbicides.
What’s more, autumn happens to be the perfect time for planting grass seeds due to the combination of cooler air temperatures and warm soils, allowing time for new roots to form before winter sets in.

By populating the garden with more foliage, gardeners can introduce competition to choke out the pesky herbs by depriving them of nutritional resources.
Unlike the most commonly used weeding methods, this way – known as weed choking – is a natural process of maintaining the outdoor space naturally.
According to experts at Peppers Home and Garden, a simple way to achieve this is by overseeding your lawn. They explain: “Overseeding your lawn will thicken the grass, helping it resist future weed invasion.
“However it is best used on a lawn where the weeds are currently dormant or have recently been killed.”
The method works by filling in the bare spots on your lawn and filling it with new grass, making the lawn as a whole thicker.
This will limit the space available to weed seedlings, and it will shade the soil which blocks them off from sunlight and ultimately kills them.
Another benefit of thicing your grass is it pulls moisture and nutrients from the soil before seedlings have a chance to get to them.
Though overseeding a lawn is entirely possible on a tight budget, the type of grass you opt for will play a critical role in the cost of reseeding your yard.
