Cabaret comedienne Frock Hudson, 40, shares their day on a plate.
Frock Hudson is the alter ego of cabaret comedian Dean Arcuri.
7.30am A piece of buttered multigrain toast with a very generous amount of Vegemite, and a glass of orange juice.
8.15am A mixed bowl of cereal – one-quarter Coco Pops, one-quarter Corn Flakes and half muesli – with low-fat milk.
10.30am A mixed juice with carrots, celery, beetroot, apple, ginger, banana and strawberries. I have a green tea a little later on.
2pm Boiled xiao long bao and fried pork dumplings with some soy and ginger and plenty of chilli, plus a Coke Zero.
4pm Three glasses of water following a radio performance.
9pm After a pint of pale ale earlier in the evening with friends, we enjoy salmon pressed with sesame seeds, salt and pepper, then flash-fried in olive oil and served with wasabi mayo, coleslaw and a glass of red wine.
11pm Three bits of sharp, crumbly cheese and two glasses of water.
Dr Joanna McMillan says:
Top marks for … Dinner – we need to eat at least two oily fish meals a week to provide long-chain omega-3 fats needed for good brain health. A few extra greens would have made this meal spot on.
If you keep eating like this you'll … Have to watch your gut health as you're low on both quantity and diversity of fibre. Chinese dumplings are made with white flour, juicing vegies and fruit removes most of the fibre, and you are not eating enough plant food in general.
Why don't you try … Ditching the low-fibre breakfast cereals and jazzing up your muesli with fresh berries and other fruit, adding an order of steamed greens to a Chinese meal, snacking on nuts and opting for smoothies over juices so the pulp is not removed.
Frock Hudson is in Victor Frock-Paulia at 86 Cabaret Bar, Melbourne; February 7-9.
