If you're suffering from erectile dysfunction issues, then all you may need is a trip to your local coffee shop, according to experts from Online Pharmacy Chemist Click.
Caffeine, the natural stimulant found in coffee, acts as a vasodilator on the body, meaning it helps to relax and widen blood vessels.
This could potentially be beneficial to men facing erection problems because “the enhanced blood flow to the penile tissues is essential for achieving and maintaining an erection” explains superintendent pharmacist Abbas Kanani.

Coffee is a rich source of caffeine, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds and has been implicated to have a potentially beneficial role against chronic diseases.
It is known to block adenosine receptors, a molecule involved in promoting inflammation and immune responses, as well as indications that caffeine might have antioxidant properties, which could help counteract oxidative stress.
Reducing inflammation can have a positive effect on blood flow. It helps arteries to expand and contract properly, prevent or slow down the formation of these plaques which can obstruct blood flow and facilitate improved blood pressure regulation.
Mr Kanani added: “While acute inflammation is a normal and necessary process for healing, chronic inflammation can have negative effects on various systems in the body, including the cardiovascular system."
Caffeine consumption has also been linked to increased nitric oxide production in the body.
“Nitric oxide is a molecule that plays a crucial role in relaxing and widening blood vessels, which, in turn, can facilitate blood flow to the penis and support erectile function,” explains Mr Kanani.
The benefits may not just be specific to blood flow either. Some studies suggest caffeine consumption, including that from coffee, may lead to a temporary increase in testosterone levels. However, these increases are generally modest and may not have significant physiological implications.

A typical 8-oz cup of coffee provides around 80–100 mg of caffeine, but this is variable and dependent on factors that affect the caffeine content such as brewing method, the type of bean and the amount of coffee grounds that a person uses.
Despite the potential benefits, the pharmacist advises that caffeinated drinks including coffee, tea and energy drinks should always be consumed moderately and as part of a healthy, balanced diet.
He adds: “Too much caffeine can lead to restlessness, shakiness, rapid or irregular heartbeats, headaches, irritability and insomnia."
It could also worsen symptoms of Sexual Performance Anxiety for some men because higher doses of caffeine or caffeine sensitivity can lead to feelings of anxiety, restlessness, or jitteriness. These effects can be more pronounced in people with preexisting anxiety disorders.
