When you need fresh lemon juice, the idea of wrestling with the citrus fruit to get one measly squeeze isn’t so appealing.
But one woman has come up with a simple trick to ensuring as much juice as possible comes out without much effort.
Mon Mack, from Brisbane, Australia, revealed on TikTok how to use a chopstick to get all the liquid out of a lemon.
The cooking enthusiast said you need to massage the lemon before getting to work.
If you warm it up this way, the pressure applied will break down some of the citrus membranes and make the exterior more pliable for squeezing.
The next step is to get a chopstick and pierce through the base of the lemon.
Mon showed viewers how to scrape the insides to prepare the fruit to be juiced.
Lo and behold – once she placed the lemon over a glass, the liquid poured out by itself.
Mon said in the video: ‘This is the perfect hack for all of you who forget about the lemons in your fridge.’
She advised viewers to ‘massage the lemon’ with warmed-up hands to make it ‘super squishy’.
Once that’s done, she said, ‘scrape the inside of the lemon with the chopstick to break up the cells’.
If you tip the lemon over a bowl or cup then all the water should fall out by itself, but you can give it a light squeeze.
If you want to scrape every last drop out then you can also cut the lemon and squeeze out the rest.
People were excited by Mon’s hack, saying: ‘Lemons are so expensive in the shops. This trick is so handy!’
Others said their mind was blown.
One person wrote: ‘My mouth watered watching this. I always have lemons at home and now I’m going to try this’.
‘Why does this make me feel like I’m eating lemon,’ another asked.
