The prettiest tea-time outfits to wear for Afternoon Tea

We must admit we’re all partial to a spot of afternoon tea over here. The dainty china tea cups, the no-crust cucumber sandwiches and sticky jam-filled scones, there’s nothing quite as British. It would be rude not to keep up the tradition right?

And as if we needed another reason to feast on cakes and cream teams for several hours? It’s also an excuse for us to pop on a pretty frock and generally get a little dolled up.

So with that said and in celebrating Afternoon Tea Week (from August 13, 2018), we thought we’d round up the best outfit choices for the occasion.

Floral Print Bubble Hem Blouse, £12.50, George at Asda

If you’re not a dress kind of gal, there are plenty of pretty tops and blouses on the high street. Team with skinny jeans and heels, if it’s a more casual affair, or smart trousers and a blazer if you’re going more up market.

Tie-front dress, £16, Matalan

If in doubt, opt for a colour block dress in this season’s summery hue. The tie-front detailing will cinch you in at the waist.

Peach floral print frill detail midi dress, £25, PrettyLittleThing.com

Go all out glam in a figure-fitting number, especially if you’re keen to carry on into the evening after your tea.

Black Spot Print Twill Utility Jumpsuit, £27.99, New Look

Jumpsuits are a great alternative to a dress and we can’t get enough of polka dots.

Red animal print jersey midi, £30, Dorothy Perkins

Jump on the animal print trend in this striking midi dress.

High-waisted palazzo trousers, £35.99, Mango

The Duchess of Sussex rocked high-waisted palazzo trousers at Wimbledon and they’re great for hidings sins, especially after all the cakes.

Embroidered stripe dress, £39.99, Zara

Embroidery and stripes – what’s not to love? It’s all about the prairie look for AW18, but teamed with simple black sandals, it’s an effortless look for afternoon tea.

Red/pink pleated skirt, £40, Next

Midi skirts are so versatile and they’ll see you through to winter. Colour block styles are a must-have this summer, just add a plain tee or a ruffled blouse.

80s Floral Pinafore Dress, £55, Topshop

Topshop’s cult pinafore dress is available in six colours, but we think florals are the most appropriate for afternoon tea. Wear over a white blouse for an on trend look and you can carry on rocking this until autumn.
