Hilarious Instagram account ‘Not Engaged’ is the perfect antidote to smug couples pics – The Sun

EVER get fed up of seeing countless loved-up couple photos on Instagram? We may have the perfect account for you.

Mary McCarthy, from New York, has racked up 105,000 followers on her @NotEngaged page, which is dedicated to her ringless left hand’s adventures.

In all of the photos, Mary’s bare hand is posted in front of the camera – similar to newly-engaged women’s typical engagement shots.

For many, her account is a breath of fresh air, and a positive spin on being happy not having a partner.

Mary, 31, who is an actress and writer, told Fox News last year: “It's basically how I'm living my life, and how I'm single and I have my own apartment and how single girls are doing just as fine as everybody else.

"As jokesy and silly as it is, I try to skew it more to empowerment. You can do it on your own and be totally fine."

There are currently over 12million photos on Instagram with the tag #engaged – however Mary’s commonly-used #notengaged tells the other side of the story.

Mary can be seen posting her hand in front of wine glasses, in front of landscapes on her travels and enjoying watching TV at home.

All of the shots include funny captions which reveal how happy she is to be riding solo, including her latest picture of her left ringless hand in front of a go-karting track.

She added the description: “When ur #notengagedand u go a lil race car driving which is like so cute cute cute in ur lil helmet and ur racin around on ur own and there r no couples cuz all the cars r one seat so nobody can be like “bebe i’ll drive” like no u won’t rodney imma speed demon.”

Mary added to Fox News: “I have nothing against marriage or relationships, that's not the message at all.

It's basically how I'm living my life, and how I'm single and I have my own apartment and how single girls are doing just as fine as everybody else.

"No matter how you're choosing your life to go, you're doing it for yourself and that's all that matters.

“If it helps make a few people laugh or smile, that's all I need from it.”

And the Instagram star has certainly racked up an army of fans, who have praised her for the account.

One wrote: “This account makes me feel better.”

Another added: “Your account is hilarious.”
