The second film in the trilogy, The Crimes of Grindelwald, is due to be released on November 16 and in the run-up to its premiere speculation over the plot has reached fever pitch.
Fans went wild after discovering Nagini, Voldemort’s faithful pet snake, was a witch suffering from a maledictus curse.
Now, armed with that information, some conspiracy theorists have delved deeper into Nagini’s backstory.
And one which is gaining notoriety is that Nagini is in fact Voldemort’s mother.
The origins of He Who Shall Not Be Named were referenced in the original Harry Potter books but there are still a number of holes and questions surrounding his past.
A fan theory on Reddit seemingly ties in a lot of storylines to come up with the mind-blowing revelation – but it actually seems to make sense.
They wrote: “People have speculated that Fantastic Beasts will tie in to Voldemort's birth, due to the fact first movie takes place in 1926.
“Voldemort (Tom Riddle) is born of Merope Gaunt on December 31st 1926.
“A poster seen in the first Fantastic Beasts movie speaks of a circus called the Circus Arcanus moving from New York to Europe on December 13th 1926.
“The last trailer for the new Fantastic Beasts movie confirms that the "snake girl" who is part of the circus is Nagini, a maledictus who will go on to become Voldemort's pet snake.
“This is a secret Rowling says she has carried for 20 years.
"So we have Nagini in the right location and the right time, but that is no confirmation that Nagini is Merope Gaunt.
“In Half-Blood Prince, we find out from Mrs Cole that Merope arrived at Wool's orphanage, gave birth to Tom Riddle, and died soon after, though I believe Merope faked her own death.”
A quote from the sixth book, from Mrs Cole, says: “I remember she said to me 'I hope he looks like his papa', and I won't lie she was right to hope it, because she was no beauty — and then she told me he was to be named Tom, for his father, and Marvolo, for her father — yes, I know, funny name, isn't it?
“We wondered whether she came from a circus"
The theory goes that this is the same circus Nagini is part of, the Circus Arcanus.
They added: “But it seems Rowling may already have had the idea that Merope/Nagini was part of the Circus Arcanus.
“Perhaps Merope was looking ugly due to her upcoming permanent transformation into a snake.
"Perhaps Merope gave her child to an orphanage before faking her own death and running away so she would not harm her child after her snake transformation.
“The Gaunts after all are descended from Salazar Slytherin – what better family to carry a snake curse?
“If this were true, and Voldemort was the child of the maledictus Nagini, it would explain Nagini's maternal relationship with Voldemort in the books.
“If the two were able to communicate via parseltongue, this theory would explain why Voldemort is so fond of Nagini, entrusting her to become a Horcrux.
“Voldemort drinks Nagini's venom to regain strength in his baby-form in Goblet of Fire, an obvious parallel to mother's milk.
“It may even explain why Voldemort develops snake-like characteristics.
“But craziest of all is how this might explain how Voldemort was able to recover to a baby-form at all.”
JK Rowling is also quoted as saying how Voldemort was brought back into a rudimentary body was “too horrible”.
In The Goblet of Fire, the Dark Lord says: "Wormtail was able to follow the instructions I gave him, which would return me to a rudimentary, weak body of my own…with a little help from my dear Nagini.”
The fan theory goes: “Maybe the reason Voldemort was able to regain a baby-form was that his own mother, Nagini, gave birth to him again.
“As Nagini contained a piece of Voldemort's soul, maybe Voldemort's soul joined with Nagini's piece of soul, which would later be given a body through childbirth.”
People have been chipping in with their own opinions on the theory, with one fan saying: “I do not really think this is possible step/foster mom is more likely.”
Others got down to nitty gritty detail, saying: “In the books we see Dumbledore visit the Gaunts.
“For this to work, she’d have to have lived with the Gaunts, met Tom Riddle Snr, gone to the orphanage and given birth and THEN joined the Circus after his birthday (so New Year’s Day 1927).
“HOWEVER the poster in FBWTT shows the circus with the ‘Snake Girl’ is already in New York before Voldemort’s birth on December 13th so I don’t think it’s possible.”
Another person thought: “So Voldemort’s mother is a maledictus and the father wasn't a muggle he was an obscurial.”
Bring on Fantastic Beasts Two.
If you want more Harry Potter, this is the moment when fans realised Nagini was once a woman.
And it’s been claimed Albus Dumbledore will have a ‘sensual’ scene with Grindelwald in the second Fantastic Beasts film.
Primark has launched Harry Potter themed baby wear and it’s too adorable.
