FYI: Amazon's Prime Day Won't Happen Until Later, But a Secret Summer Sale's in the Works

Every single year, Amazon Prime Day gets bigger and bigger. Like, even other retailers drop “Prime Day” deals just to try and keep up with the big dog. Yep, I’m lookin’ at you, Walmart and Best Buy. Don’t get it twisted, though, it all originated on Amazon.com as a lil 24-hour sale for Prime members, hence the name. Last year’s deals rolled out over a two-day period. TWO. DAYS. People.

Since 2020 marks the 5-year anniversary of the shopping holiday, I’m sure Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and CEO, has some big things up his sleeves to impress his bargain-loving customers. Sadly, the pandemic has put a little halt in this year’s plans. So…

Is Prime Day even happening this year?

The discount party usually kicks off the second week in July. But Amazon made a decision to push the major sale back until September, according to The Wall Street Journal. The global spread of COVID-19 forced Amazon to focus on the surge of essential household orders. So planning an obviously not-as-important sale had to be put on hold for a lil.

But, there’s apparently a secret “summer sale” happening soon anyway…

I hope you aren’t pouting about the change in plans. Because a few days ago, The New York Times leaked details from an Amazon meeting, stating that the retailer is gearing up for a secret “Summer Sale” to fill the Prime Day-shaped hole in our hearts. My kitchen (hi, Nespresso!!) and my wallet are looking forward to that.

Oh, so what kind of deals are we talking about in this Summer Sale?

I have no idea what potential markdowns are to come, unforch, but you can keep checking back here for updates on dates, times and discounts! What I *can* give you is the scoop on the freak out-worthy items that were heavily discounted last year (eyeing you, Nintendo Switch). That way you can get an idea of what to look for when the summer sale and September’s Prime Day roll around…eventually.
