The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were expecting their first child in October, following their May nuptials.
A tweet from Kensington Palace at the time said: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.”
But last month's British Fashion Awards, where the 37-year-old revealed a very large bump, fuelled speculation Meghan is due sooner than expected or carrying twins.
And, on a trip to a care home at the end of December, the duchess told residents she was “feeling very pregnant” before telling a fan on Christmas Day that her and Harry were "excited" and "nearly there."
As a result bookmakers, including giants Betway and Paddy Power, have named February as the favourite month for baby Sussex’s arrival.
Which month will Baby Sussex be born? The odds…
Betway odds:
February: 7/4
March: 9/4
April: 5/2
Paddy Power odds:
February: 6/4
March: 3/1
April: 6/1
Betway have slashed the odds to 7/4 for a February arrival, with odds of 9/4 for March and 5/2 for April.
Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Judging by the latest pictures of Meghan Markle, it looks as if her and Prince Harry’s first baby may not be too far away.
“In fact, we think it could be next month with February the favourite at 7/4."
“There are a number of notable days during the next few months and while it’s unlikely the birth will fall on any of them, Valentine’s Day at 25/1 isn’t totally discounted.”
Now royal fans are claiming that Meghan may have been pregnant on her wedding day or that the baby was conceived on their wedding night of 19 May, 2018.
If the baby was conceived on their wedding night, and she was to go to 40 weeks of pregnancy, her due date would be on or around the 23rd February.
Like Betway, Paddy Power now make it 6/4 (in from 8/1) that the Duchess of Sussex will welcome her first child in February, having already suspended bets on her having twins.
A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “Harry and Meghan certainly don’t do things by halves.
"The sudden engagement announcement, the rapid wedding turnaround, swiftly followed by pregnancy news. Welcoming twins would fit that pattern.
“And an increasing number of punters think the pair will give birth sooner than expected – just as they correctly predicted the engagement and the pregnancy.”
With February now being the firm favourite there’s a chance the royal could make an appearance on a very special day, with odds of 25/1 given for Valentine’s Day, February 14.
