Britain will celebrate Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with bake-off competition to create pudding dedicated to Her Majesty

THE nation will celebrate 2022’s historic Platinum Jubilee with a UK-wide bake-off to create a dessert dedicated to Her Maj.

It is hoped the winning pud, judged by Mary Berry, will be as loved as the Victoria Sponge, named after Queen Vic.

A contest, dubbed Bake Orf, has been launched to create a pud to become a national treasure like Coronation Chicken, devised when she took the throne in 1952.

The winning recipe will be sampled by the Queen and devoured at parties nationwide.

Dame Mary, 86, will taste test with TV cook Monica Galetti and the Queen’s chef Mark Flanagan.

She said: “I’m thrilled to be panel chair for this exciting competition to make the perfect pudding for the Queen. I hope everyone who enters has lots of fun.”

A royal source said: “The British public and the Queen both love their cake. There is no better way to mark her 70th year on the throne than a pudding that will stand the test of time.

“Britain has a proud history of cake-making and many of us have turned to baking during the pandemic so I don’t think judges will be short of recipes.”
