Zidane’s ‘honest thoughts’ on replacing Mourinho at Man Utd

Zinedine Zidane’s former France teammate Christophe Dugarry has laughed off claims that the ex-Real Madrid boss will replace Jose Mourinho.

And he says that if Zidane has spoken to the Red Devils chief – as suggested in some reports – then "I won’t eat one rat, I’ll eat two."

Zidane, who led the Spanish side to three successive Champions League crowns before walking away in the summer, has been touted as the No.1 candidate to replace under-fire Mourinho.

The Portuguese is under increasing pressure with United well off the pace in the Premier League, having been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Derby.

United’s style of play has also come in for criticism, while Mirror Football understands a number of players have lost faith in Mourinho and believe his departure is inevitable.

But Dugarry insists that Zidane will not be the man to replace him.

And amid reports that the two have spoken, he says he very much doubts Zidane has called Mourinho given their relationship.

"Zizou won’t go to Manchester,” Dugarry told RMC. “I’m telling you, he won’t go to Manchester. If he called Mourinho, I won’t eat one rat, I’ll eat two.

"I don’t believe it for one second, because the relationship between Zidane and Mourinho has never been good. Never.

"So I don’t see why Zizou would call Mourinho to tell him he won’t take his job.

“Zizou is on holiday, Mourinho is sorting his situation out by himself."

United face Newcastle at Old Trafford this weekend looking to reinvigorate their season.
