The agent of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho says his client would be a Manchester City player now – had it not been for Napoli.
The Italian international was Pep Guardiola’s No.1 target to bolster his City midfield in the summer.
But City failed to agree terms with the Neapolitans over a deal, despite protracted talks.
Subsequently, Jorginho joined Chelsea in the immediate aftermath of Maurizio Sarri’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Now the player’s agent, Joao Santos, placed blame on a move to the Etihad not getting done squarely at the feet of the player’s former club.
“It was all done with Jorginho,” Joao Santos confirmed to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“There was an agreement, but there was no agreement between the clubs. All parties have to agree, and one did not.
“Then Chelsea asked what the situation was after Sarri arrived and Jorginho went to London.”
Jorginho has impressed at the base of the Blues midfield in the opening weeks of the season.
“He’s really enjoying it at Chelsea, the team is on a roll and has won four matches out of four, added Santos. "It’s a great start.
“Going to Chelsea was a unique opportunity, the career of a player is very short and now we hope for the best.”
