Wenger claims Henry has applied for top job

Arsene Wenger says Thierry Henry has applied for the Bordeaux job as the former Arsenal forward looks to begin his managerial career.

Henry – who is currently Belgium’s assistant boss – was heavily linked with the Aston Villa job this summer, but could now begin his career as a No. 1 in his native France.

Get French Football News cite an exclusive interview Wenger gave while on holiday in Corsica, where he was asked about rumours linking Henry with the Ligue 1 club, who have suspended the former Brighton and Sunderland boss Gus Poyet after he hit out at the club over transfers.

"Yes, he wants to do it," Wenger confirmed, "he is intelligent and he has the qualities.

"The existential question that we always ask ourselves is whether we are ready to sacrifice our life for the coaching profession."

Wenger also confirmed that he is sticking to his plan not make a decision on his future until September, as he prepares to take his first job since leaving Arsenal after 22 years at the club.

"I decided not to decide," he continued.

"I was intoxicated for such a long time that I promised myself not to make any decisions before September."

Answering questions on his time with the Gunners, Wenger admitted that while he made mistakes in the job, he had no remorse.

"Pride has never been my strong point," he said.

"Proud, in any case, to have always worked with values that were important to me, respect for people, professionalism, integrity, a sense of responsibility.

"I’m not stupid enough either to think that I did not make mistakes and there, we enter the field of some regrets I might have.

"On the other hand, I have no remorse because I have stayed true to the values that are important in sport, especially in high performance sport."
