Megan Barton-Hanson has shocked the world today by revealing that she and Love Island boyfriend Wes Nelson have split – just five months after they first started dating.
The 24-year-old reality star announced the bombshell with an Instagram statement, insisting that while she still loves Wes, they can no longer be together.
She also confirmed that they’ve been off and on almost from the moment they moved in together, just four weeks after meeting in the ITV2 show’s Love Island villa.
"We have been working hard for well under a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much, we will remain separate," she said.
"It has been an incredibly hard decision to make for both of us but we are looking forward to moving on together as friends and supporting each other in everything we do."
So when did the cracks start appearing? Body language expert Judi James points to their last public appearance at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night and reveals how tensions in the way the posed together gave away huge clues about their dying relationship…
"There’s a very superficial air of Love Island love and lust in these poses, with Megan and Wes performing their usual red carpet rituals, except for a couple of very telling body language behaviours.
"Megan has clearly dug deep in her wardrobe to crack open one of her most scene-stealing, show-stopping, cleavage-popping dresses – but there’s only one moment when Wes even appears to look at her or really connect with her, and that moment comes as she seeks his attention desperately by appearing worried her uplift might be slipping.
"Megan looks very keen to present them as a couple here, posing with her torso pressed in towards Wes’s and placing a hand on his stomach in a classic red carpet ownership ritual.
"Wes is looking away out of shot though and we can see his rather alpha posturing as the new star of Dancing On Ice by the way his chest is puffed and splayed as much – if not more – than Megan’s.
"He appears to come to the front of the pose to really connect direct with the cameras, rather than focusing on Megan and her uber-sexy dress.
"Did she feel his career and profile were heading in a different direction at this point? It could have been his moment to prove her jealousy over Vanessa Bauer was unfounded, but he doesn’t really seem to have come up with the goods here in terms of paying maximum attention to Megan."
