‘I brought shame to my family’: Candice Warner reveals she is ‘not proud’ of 2007 ‘toilet tryst’ with Sonny Bill Williams as she faces harrowing interrogation on SAS Australia

Candice Warner will reveal her regret over an encounter with Sonny Bill Williams, in an upcoming episode of SAS Australia. 

The WAG admits she is ‘not proud’ of the ‘toilet tryst’ she shared with the rugby league footballer in 2007. 

In a harrowing interrogation scene, Candice, 35, confesses: ‘In my early 20s I made a very big mistake.’

Candice added: ‘It is something I am not proud of but something I can never take back.

‘I put myself in a situation where I shouldn’t have and because of that I brought embarrassment, shame to my family.’

The now-infamous meeting between Candice and New Zealand All Blacks star Sonny occurred 13 years ago, years before she met her now-husband David Warner.

In 2018, Candice apologised to Sonny and his family after their ‘toilet tryst’ was dredged up in the media.  

In the lead-up to the Cricket Australia ball tampering scandal in 2018, Candice was taunted by South African fans for her brief sexual encounter.

She added: ‘I put myself in a situation where I shouldn’t have and because of that I brought embarrassment, shame to my family’ 

South African player Quinton de Kock was fined for allegedly provoking David with a sledge regarding Sonny and his wife, while South African fans wore masks featuring Williams’ face in an attempt to further humiliate Warner.

Cricket South Africa was forced to apologise after two officials posed for a photograph with fans wearing the masks.  

Candice has claimed that the pressure her husband David felt to silence her critics inspired him to mastermind the ball-tampering plot.

Candice told The Australian Women’s Weekly that she had miscarried just a week after David apologised for his role in the conspiracy.

‘I was bleeding. We knew I was miscarrying. We held one another and cried,’ Candice told the magazine.

Family: Candice and David married in 2015 and have three daughters, Ivy, five, Indi, four, and Isla, one 

‘The miscarriage was a tragic consequence, a heartbreaking end to a horror tour,’ she added.     

The mother-of-three also reflected on the scandal that made her a tabloid fixture for years – extending an apology to Sonny Bill and his family.

‘I finally received a weak apology from Cricket South Africa [for the fan taunts]. I realised they’re the ones to feel ashamed, not me,’ she told the magazine. 

In 2018, Candice issued an apology to Sonny Bill and his family, when the story resurfaced in the headlines: ‘I’d like to extend that apology to Sonny Bill. He’s a husband and father, so imagine how his wife would feel and his kids,’ she said

Sonny Bill married Alana Raffie in 2013 and they share four children, daughters Imaan, Aisha and sons Zaid and Essa.
