She has long had a love affair with fashion, and fashion has invariably loved her right back.

Perennial New York City girl Sarah Jessica Parker, known to fans of her iconic HBO series Sex And The City as Carrie Bradshaw, pulled off yet another showstopping look on Thursday, for New York City Ballet’s annual fall gala at Lincoln Center in Manhattan.

The actress, 54, was snapped on the steps of a brownstone on her way to the event, channeling Carrie on her way out for a night on the town in a larger-than-life voluminous fuchsia gown and mismatched strappy heels.

Parker’s gown featured a ruched and form-fitting bodice that dipped down low on her chest, with darts that gave way to a ruffled and overflowing skirt and hefty train.

Her sleeves were poofy, adding the regal feel of the garment, and Sarah Jessica’s hair was swept up into an equally appealing high bun.

She wore a simple pair of diamond studs in her ears, and had a beautifully contrasting shade of blue eye shadow on her face.

A standout element to SJP’s ensemble were her shoes, which were mismatched buckled sandals with heels — one in a matching shade of pink, and one in a bright yellow.

Girl about town: Parker was channeling Carrie on her way out for a night on the town in a larger-than-life voluminous fuchsia gown and mismatched strappy heels

Her move to wear clashing footwear was obviously quite deliberate, since both Sarah Jessica and her alias Carrie Bradshaw are famous for their passion for shoes — the actress and entrepreneur even opened her own chain of upscale shoe boutiques, called SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker, last fall.

The lighthearted touch to her formal look on Thursday could also be a subtle nod to her career-defining series, since in one episode of the show’s third season, Carrie also wears mismatched heels, while visiting Los Angeles.

Earlier this year, the celebrated fan account @EveryOutfitOnSATC on Instagram couldn’t help but wonder why Carrie wore the clashing Louboutins in the episode entitled Escape From New York.

Playful: One shoe was in a matching shade of pink, and the other in a bright yellow

‘THE MYSTERY OF THE MISMATCHED LOUBS,’ the fan account captioned a screen cap from the episode. ‘Did Carrie buy these mismatched sandals straight off the rack? Or did she purchase two separate pairs and mix them together herself? Are they a metaphor for her inability to choose between Aidan and Big?’

‘Unfortunately, we have no answers. But we do maintain that this is one of her most compelling footwear moments on the series,’ they concluded.

Amazingly, Sarah Jessica herself responded on Instagram with a comment of her own, revealing her reasoning for the unorthodox fashion move along with that of the show’s costume designer Patricia Field.

‘Pat and I chose to do 1 of each,’ Sarah Jessica explained.

The lady herself: SJP even took to Instagram this summer to explain her reasoning for the footwear decision on the show

‘Perhaps because both were so delicious in color and seemed in harmony with the dress but also because we simply loved doing 1 of each.’

Surely, the same thinking went into Parker’s decision to make a similar move on Thursday for the ballet’s fundraiser.

Speaking of the ballet, Parker is a devoted supporter of the New York City cultural institution, and recently posted on Instagram that she temporarily joined the personalized celebrity messaging service Cameo in order to raise funds for the gala.

She also attended New York City Ballet’s spring gala in May, with her adorable ten-year-old twin daughters Marion and Tabitha in tow.
