What is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events.
People with PTSD often suffer nightmares and flashbacks to the traumatic event and can experience insomnia and an inability to concentrate.
Symptoms are often severe enough to have a serious impact on the person’s day-to-day life, and can emerge straight after the traumatic event or years later.
PTSD is thought to affect about one in every three people who have a traumatic experience, and was first documented in the First World War in soldiers with shell shock.
People who are worried they have PTSD should visit their GP, who could recommend a course of psychotherapy or anti-depressants, the NHS say.
Combat Stress operate a 24-hour helpline for veterans, which can be reached on 0800 138 1619.
Speaking to Jeremy about the scandal on Friday, Roxanne said: ‘It was a really awful time for a lot of people. It’s only now when I watch those back I realised how far I’ve come. It’s like watching somebody else.’
When asked about her disappearance from the spotlight she responded: ‘I had to. I had to get off the grid. That meant turning down any appearances.
‘I’ll be honest with you, it’s been a long time coming. Things that were wrong were so wrong. And it’s only now, since I’ve been having therapy, I’ve been doing some reflecting and soul searching – I’ve thought about why I felt that way.’
When asked if she felt suicidal, Roxanne said yes.
After her exit from the Channel 5 show, she returned for a pre-recorded interview with host Emma Willis to apologise for the incident.
Roxanne recently claimed she sent a suicide message to her family and friends after she falsely accused Ryan of punching her.
The actress said she told her family ‘she didn’t want to be here anymore’ after she was accused of over-exaggerating a playful punch from her co-star.
Earlier this year, Roxanne spoke again about suffering with depression and was diagnosed with PTSD after she left the Channel 5 show last summer.
In May, Roxanne landed her first job since CBB when she spoke about her depression and PTSD at the Music For Your Mind event at Jimmy’s bar in Manchester.

Organisers of the event said: ‘Roxanne Pallett will be speaking about her battle with depression and PTSD for the first time’.
Roxanne, who appeared on Celebrity Coach Trip in January, previously shared a lengthy post to Instagram in which she detailed her struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder.
Reflecting on her struggles, for which she sought professional help, the reality star cited a house-fire, domestic violence at the hands of an abusive boyfriend, the death of her grandmother and the devastating suicide of a close friend among the potential causes.
She wrote: ‘I want to open up about some things you may not know, as I’ve found there’s a lot of judgement out there with little knowledge when it comes to the story behind the character ~ so here’s mine.
‘I was 16 when our family home went up in flames. It was traumatic to be trapped inside a burning house. Losing our home & all our belongings was one thing, but months later, cancer took my grandma who had raised me. It broke me.’
