Robert Downey Jr.’s huge Avengers deal revealed: How Iron Man star negotiated a cut of box office profits… including $75m for Infinity War

Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. has negotiated massive paydays for his Avengers movies over the years.

It’s being reported that the actor has a special arrangement with Marvel studio chief Kevin Feige and receives a sizable chunk of back-end profits on each of the movies he works on.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that thanks to a killer deal in his contract the 54-year-old star likely received at least $75 million from 2018’s Infinity War which grossed $2 billion at the box office.

And for just three days of work in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was released in 2017, the actor received $5 million.

THR reports that the bonus structure is changing for the other stars with the studio raising the threshold with increased box office takings.

An agent with insider knowledge of deal-making tells THR that not long ago a bonus would kick in after the $500 million global mark. The threshold then became $700 million.

Nowadays, when it comes to Avengers movies, bonuses don’t kick in until the movie gets to $1.5 billion.

THR reports that Scarlett Johannson, who plays Black Widow and is returning for a 2020 stand-alone film is earning $20 million for starring and producing.

Meanwhile Avengers: Endgame set a new standard for Hollywood blockbusters this weekend with stunning hauls of $357 million in North America and $1.2 billion worldwide

Chris Hemsworth, who stars as Thor, signed with Marvel for five movies in 2010 before renegotiating to do Infinity War and Endgame and is also reportedly being paid in the $15-$20 million range.

Chris Evans negotiated about the same salary to play Captain America.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Endgame set a new standard for Hollywood blockbusters this weekend with stunning hauls of $357 million in North America and $1.2 billion worldwide, industry data showed Monday.

The fourth and final chapter in the adventures of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and company managed 43 times the domestic take of the No. 2 film, Marvel’s Captain Marvel, which made $8.3 million. 

Entertainment media are predicting a final global take of up to $2.5 billion, which would give it a place among the most lucrative movies of all time alongside Avatar ($2.8 billion), Titanic ($2.2 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.07 billion), and Infinity War ($2.05 billion).
