The Office of Ontario’s Chief Coroner has announced that the official inquest into the tragic death of a Radiohead technician will begin on March 25, 2019.
A drum technician for the band, 33-year-old Scott Johnson was killed when the roof of the band’s stage at Downsview Park in Toronto caved in, crushing him and injuring three others only hours before the band was set to perform at the venue on June 16, 2012.
Although thirteen charges were laid against the show’s promoter, Live Nation, engineer Domenic Cugliari and contractor Optex Staging and Services, they were ultimately withheld as the case took too long to come to trial.
The band members have expressed their utmost disgust regarding the pace at which the case has proceeded, with frontman Thom Yorke saying, “The people who should be held accountable are still not being held accountable…the silence is f–king deafening,” to a crowd in Toronto earlier this year.
“It’s six years now, it’s six years without answers. Without answers to what went wrong, there’s nothing that you can put in place to prevent it from happening again,” said drummer, Philip Selway in an interview with CBC News.
