Queen Elizabeth has returned to her royal duties just four days following the passing of her husband, Prince Philip.
The 94-year-old sovereign made an appearance at Earl Peel‘s retirement ceremony.
Earl William Peel had been the Queen’s Lord Chamberlain, the household’s most senior official, who is retiring after 14 years of service.
As reported last Friday, Prince Philip died at the age of 99 and the Queen was said to enter a traditional period of eight days of mourning.
After the eight day period of mourning, a longer period of Royal Mourning is expected. The country is also expected to enter a 10 day mourning period. Royal households will mourn for 30 days.
Guardsmen will wear black armbands on their tunics throughout that time period.
If you missed it, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, has opened up about Philip‘s final moments.
