Phoebe Burgess is slammed for keeping her NRL star ex-husband Sam’s last name… but she says she has a good reason for keeping it
Phoebe Burgess has revealed why she’s still using her ex-husband Sam’s last name after their divorce was finalised last year.
The former WAG was forced to explain herself after a fan asked the journalist-turned-social media influencer why she decided to keep it.
‘Why do you still use the surname Burgess after such a messy separation and all the negative things Sam supposedly put your family through,’ the follower probed.

Underneath, another follower remarked how ‘classy’ Phoebe’s reply was.
Phoebe and Sam, 32, separated in September 2019, and reportedly legally divorced in December 2020, just before Christmas.
They had initially separated in December 2018 – shortly after the birth of their son, Billy – but reconciled in April, only to end things for good six months later.
Phoebe is said to have walked away with 70 per cent of the couple’s marital wealth, including Sam’s F45 gym franchise, which she has since sold.

The former journalist, who now promotes herself as a brand ambassador, also kept a $100,000 Range Rover, which she is regularly seen driving around Bowral.
While Phoebe recovered in Bowral, Sam was embroiled in a series of legal woes following the breakdown of his marriage.
He was recently cleared on appeal of intimidating his former father-in-law, Mitch Hooke.
A conviction for intimidating Mr Hooke was overturned by a New South Wales District Court judge.
Sam also escaped conviction for driving with cocaine in his system while on his way to pick up his two young children in Bowral.

Speaking to Stellar Magazine earlier this year, Phoebe said she was still ‘in a daze’ after her marriage breakdown, and says she’s experienced, ‘a lot of pain, a lot of trauma, a lot of ugly stuff’ that has changed her.
However she has relied on her family – parents Sarah and Mitch – as well as her sisters, Harriet and Jemima, building an ‘idyllic’ and ‘beautiful little life’ at their picturesque rural estate.
Phoebe’s mother Sarah told the magazine she is astounded by Phoebe’s strength, and despite the awful circumstances, she has relished watching her grandchildren grow up at her home.
Earlier this month meanwhile, it was reported that Phoebe purchased a $1.7million home in Bowral for her and her children.
