All that jazz: Pamela Anderson has opened up on how she feels to be making her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago, as she admits the role is ‘really needed’ at ‘this point in my life’

The Baywatch babe looked incredible as she posed for the official promo shots for the musical, released on Thursday, wowing in a racy black lace mini and fishnets.

Pamela, who shot to fame as red swimsuit-clad lifeguard C.J Parker in 90s favourite Baywatch, is set to follow in the footsteps of Ashlee Simpson, Brooke Shields, Rumer Willis and original Roxie Hart Gwen Verdon in the famous role.

Sharing her excitement at the opportunity, she gushed: ‘I can’t even believe those words! I’ve never had the opportunity to do anything at this level. I’ve always been a dancer and a singer in my head. I just had to do it…it was a leap of faith.’

Pamela’s stint on stage will run from April 12-June 5 at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City.

And despite oozing confidence in her numerous film and TV roles, Pamela admitted she couldn’t believe that bosses took a chance on her as she told how the ‘iconic’ production couldn’t have come at a better time for her.

She said: ‘The fact that they gave me a shot to do it is really shocking for me. I always thought I got away with murder in a bikini. I never had to apply myself to anything and at this point in my life, this was something I really needed.’

The major new role comes just two months after after Pamela filed for divorce from her fifth husband Dan Hayhurst after just 13 months of marriage.

Ready: ‘I think I’ve been rehearsing my whole life for this. The story and my life are so parallel, I always say…30 years of therapy or just one Broadway show, then I’ll be fine’

The split comes almost a year after DailyMail.com broke the news that Anderson had made it official with her bodyguard after the two fell in love at the beginning of the 2020 coronavirus lockdown.

The pair tied the knot in an intimate Christmas Eve ceremony on the grounds of Anderson’s home on Vancouver Island, Canada.

But an insider said in January: ‘Pamela loves as authentically as she lives,’ and that the ‘pandemic whirlwind’ romance had run its course.

The star was originally scouted for the part of Roxie Hart a decade ago by the Oscar-winning film adaptation’s director Rob Marshall during a chance encounter on a beach on California.

Pamela told how she turned down the part as she was busy raising teenage sons Brandon Thomas and Dylan Jagger at the time, but she said the time is now right as they’re older and the ‘stars are aligning’.

And while she was initially stunned at the offer and admits she knows that for some her move is ‘unexpected’, Pamela told how she believes she was made for the role as she drew ‘parallels’ between her life and the villainous Roxie.

She explained: ‘I think I’ve been rehearsing my whole life for this. The story and my life are so parallel, I always say…30 years of therapy or just one Broadway show, then I’ll be fine.’

Set in the 1920s, the musical is a scathing satire of how show business and the media make celebrities out of criminals. It has Bob Fosse-inspired choreography, skimpy outfits and killer songs such as ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Cell Block Tango.’

Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to leave her.

To avoid conviction, Roxie hires Chicago´s slickest criminal lawyer to help her dupe the public, media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by creating shocking headlines.

And while Pamela has never committed such a crime, like Roxie her love life and personal affairs have certainly made headlines over the years, what with her infamous sex tape with Tommy Lee and numerous marriages – the most recent union with Dan Hayhurst lasting only 13 months.

Pamela added that landing the part felt like ‘synchronicity’, noting that her role ‘feels very meant to be’.

Pam also said the fishnet-clad character was one she’s been ‘rehearsing her whole life’ to play.

Expounding on the character Anderson stated, ‘I think fame for Roxie is freedom’.

‘It’s not just about being famous, it’s about having freedom and having attention in a loving way, so I can relate to a lot of the stuff in the show.

‘There is a darkness to it,’ she said. ‘There’s also a darkness to the media and real life.’

‘It’s a very interesting play and it’s iconic. It lasts forever because it’s a great story. And there’s always something underneath all the glamour that makes it even more glamorous.

While she has been unlucky in love recently, Pamela’s close friend, jailed Julian Assange married fiancée Stella Morris – the mother of two children he secretly fathered within the walls of London’s Ecuadorian embassy – at Belmarsh high security prison on Wednesday.

Pamela and Julian famously have a close relationship, with the superstar previously calling him one of her ‘favourite people.’

Pamela’s friend Assange, who is facing extradition to the United States on espionage charges, married Stella Moriss, 38, in front of four guests and two witnesses on Wednesday afternoon.

Dame Vivienne Westwood designed Stella’s wedding dress and a kilt for Australian-born Assange, whose parents are of Scottish extraction.

The limit on guests meant that one of the WikiLeaks founder’s guards also had to act as the wedding snapper.

Baywatch star Pamela has previously spoken out in support of Assange and met him on several occasions when he lived at the Ecuadorean embassy prior to his arrest in 2019.

She was also among Assange’s first visitors following his imprisonment at Belmarsh, with the actress making an unlikely appearance at the notoriously tough prison complex that May.

‘He does not deserve to be in a supermax prison. He has never committed a violent act. He is an innocent person,’ she told reporters after visiting Assange.

Pamela revealed that he has no access to information, is ‘really cut off from everybody’ and has not been able to speak to his children.
