MTV EMAs Canceled Due To 'Volatility Of World Events'

This year’s MTV Europe Music Awards have been canceled due to the “volatility of world events.”

In an announcement on Thursday, the organizers of the event said, “Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.”

The MTV EMAs are presented by Paramount International Networks to honor artists and music in pop culture.

The broadcasting network made it clear that as the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, it does not feel like a moment for a global celebration.

“With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning,” the organizers said.

Although the event is cancelled, voting is continuing and the winning artists will receive their MTV EMA Awards later.

The award ceremony was scheduled to be hosted by Paris for the first time since 1995.

Taylor Swift leads the nominees for this year’s MTV EMAs with seven nods, including Best Artist, Best Song and Best Video. Olivia Rodrigo and SZA follow closely with six nominations each and are also in the running for Best Artist, Best Song and Best Video.

Doja Cat, Maneskin, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj are all tied with 4 nominations each, including Best Song and Best Artist.
